Open burning of hand piles is now permitted on Denman Island. A hand piled fire is to be no bigger than 3 meters by 3 meters.

Machine piles will be permitted with a permit issued by the Fire Chief after the end of fire season, October 15, 2020.

Although recent rainfall has reduced the risk of wildfire, we ask that you burn responsibly by ensuring that enough people, water, and tools are on hand to control and stop it from spreading. Do not burn in windy conditions and only burn when the venting index is good. Please check this website for current venting conditions. Never leave a fire unattended.

Make sure that any fire is fully extinguished, and the ashes are cold to the touch before leaving the area for any length of time.

Note: We have applied for a fire smart grant and are working on a program to bring a chipper and crew to the island for a few days to remove yard tree woody debris and reduce burning. Watch this website for details.
