Denman Island Volunteer Fire Department (DIVFD), now known as Denman Island Fire Rescue (DIFR) was established in the 1970s as a volunteer-driven response to the need for organized fire protection. Initially, our department had only a few members, limited gear, and repurposed vehicles. Over time, we grew, acquiring better equipment and formal training through community support, fundraising, and government grants. Today, we have around 40+ active volunteers, more modern fire apparatus, and we serve as a key emergency response force for both fires and medical emergencies along with BCEHS, remaining as a vital part of our island’s safety network.
