The Denman Island Firefighters Association undertakes a number of fund-raising activities including its annual Canada Day weekend Pancake Breakfast, “Boot Drives” on the local ferry and occasional auctions of donated goods and services.

Through these fund-raising projects over the years, the Denman Island Firefighters Association has been able to support an academic bursary fund for Denman Island students graduating from George Vanier Secondary School. Each year, a graduating student has been awarded a $500.00 bursary towards their further education.

The Association has also supported such charities as the Multiple Sclerosis Society, ” Help Fill A Dream” Foundation and Red Cross relief funds. Money has been forwarded annually to the Denman Island Food Bank, approximately 200 Island residents have graduated from our free CPR/AED classes and, recently, Automatic External Defibrilators (AED’s) have been donated to the Community Hall and the Seniors Activity Centre.

To assist in meeting the Fire Department’s needs beyond those supported by the annual, tax-based Operating Grant, the Association has funded the purchase of a thermal imaging camera, station gear for the firefighters and an all-terrain Kubota vehicle with trailer. The Association also recently contributed a substantial sum to ensure the timely purchase and delivery of a 7500 liter Freightliner diesel tanker truck (Tanker 52). The Association also purchased four 5000 gallon water tanks, for fire fighting water, that were placed around the island, also at a substantial cost
