If you’re 16 or 17 and considering a future in firefighting—whether as a volunteer or professional—our Junior Firefighter Program is a great starting point. To join, you’ll need permission from a parent or guardian.
As a Junior Firefighter, you’ll participate in weekly training sessions, gaining hands-on experience with key skills like motor vehicle rescues, basic firefighting techniques, and rope rescues. Juniors do not participate in live-fire training or other high-skill activities. They are not permitted to actively participate at real incidents; however, the training provides a sound basis for full participation in the Department once they reach the age of 18.
Though you won’t respond to live emergencies, the skills and knowledge you gain will prepare you to fully join the department when you turn 18. Additionally, you may be able to earn high school credits through the program, so be sure to check with your school’s guidance office to confirm eligibility.
