1. Know Two Ways Out
-Identify two exits from every room in your home (usually a door and a window).
-Ensure windows can be opened easily and doors are not blocked.
2. Install Smoke Alarms
-Ensure smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home, outside bedrooms, and on every floor.
-Test alarms monthly and replace batteries as needed.
3. Create a Meeting Place
-Designate a safe meeting spot outside your home (e.g., a tree) where everyone will gather after escaping.
4. Practice Your Plan
-Hold regular fire drills to practice your escape plan, including crawling low under smoke and checking doors for heat.
5. Call 911
-Once outside, call 911 immediately and do not re-enter the home for any reason.
6. Stop, Drop, and Roll
-If any clothing catches fire, remember to stop, drop, and roll to extinguish flames.
